London could easily be seen as an epicenter for 21st century culture and business, but is also a haven to incredible history unparalleled in any corner of the world. A true international city, featuring architectural relics such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Tower of London, and Parliament, it is also the capital city of the United Kingdom.
The BBC Proms is a 123 year-old classical music festival – the largest in the world. It welcomes leading international performers and the vision for the festival hasn’t changed much from its early days of its first conductor Sir Henry Wood: “To present the widest possible range of music, performed to the highest standards, to large audiences.”
ROYAL ALBERT HALL
Opened by Queen Victoria in 1871, the 5,272 seat auditorium has been home to the BBC Proms since 1941. Named for the Queen Victoria’s late husband Prince Albert, it was his idea to have a permanent structure in place after hosting The Great Exhibition for public enlightenment. He passed away six years before he could see his ideas come to fruition, but was the initial driving force for the Royal Commission to purchase the land Royal Albert Hall was eventually built.
